posted in Articles, Frugal Holidays |

The Christmas holiday season is upon us again. Facing another shopping season could mean struggling to find the perfect gift without going deeper into debt. But it doesn’t have to be that way! There are many ideas that could be just what’s on your list for that special person, and you won’t be broke after the holiday shopping season.

Kids love stocking stuffers! These can be anything that will fit into a Christmas stocking. Walmart is just one shopping center that carries a side variety of low cost CDs and DVDs. Decorative jewelry and hair accessories are always a hit with the girls. Hot Wheels and action figures are a great choice for boys on your gift giving list. Phone cards for prepaid cell phone usage, music download cards, and gift cards to a favorite shopping center are other ideas.

Gift cards are an idea for the harder to buy for person on your list. Giving a gift card allows the person to shop for what they want. Gift cards can be purchased in a wide variety of amounts, so they make wonderful frugal Christmas gifts.

Other gift giving ideas include home crafted items that you can make at home and give as gifts. These can be gifts in a jar, gift baskets, crafts you make such as hand sewn items, painted decorative items for the home, etc.

Gifts in a jar make excellent gifts. These are wonderful because you simply put the ingredients into a jar, attach a label listing the ingredients and instructions to prepare the mixture. Jar gifts are usually food items, but this idea an be expanded into baby items for new and expectant moms, golf balls for the avid golfer on your list, pet treats for pet lovers or even your own pet, etc. If it fits into a jar, it can be a gift.

People love getting hand crafted items as gifts. So much more thought and care is put into something that you make over something that’s bought. Some ideas are toss pillows, paintings, ceramics, a family photo album from favorite photos, or any other type of craft you might make.

Putting together a gift basket or gift bag makes a sweet and thoughtful gift to just about anyone you wish to give a gift to. These could include items such as teddy bears or any other stuffed animal, warm slippers, throw blankets, hand warmers, gloves, soup mixes and soup cups, chocolates, fruits, cheeses such as cheese balls, bath and personal items, or even a collection of gifts in a jar. If you send off for free samples from companies and have a nice collection of these, they make great additions to gift bags and baskets.

Kitchenware or decorative wall hangings can make nice gifts for newlyweds or the soon to be married on your list. A notebook cooler that sits under the laptop makes a very nice gift, and averages only $24.95. For the fashion minded, a gift of an eel skin bag is a good idea. These bags are very durable and they are available in so many styles and colors. While they are not on the low cost end, the years they will last makes eel skin a frugal and stylish purchase.

Christmas gifts don’t have to cost a lot of money and buying for everyone on your gift giving list doesn’t have to leave you broke and stressed out. Instead of struggling to be able to afford something for everyone and being too stressed to enjoy the holiday season, try a frugal approach. There are so many ways to save money and still have a wonderful Christmas.
